Hard work looks different now – and I’m here for it
The Jump Into Self-Employment – My First Week at Era Hair Studio
So… I did it.
I took the leap into self-employment and officially began my journey as the owner of Era Hair Studio. And honestly? It’s been one of the strangest, scariest, and most exciting weeks of my life.
This first week has been full of new experiences, and if I’m being completely honest – a bit of a mental adjustment. It feels so strange not having someone to turn to for approvals or answers. I keep catching myself thinking, “Wait, who do I check this with?” and then realising… oh, it’s me. I’m the one who decides. So strange – but also kind of empowering.
Let me just say, this week hasn’t been without nerves. It’s been scary, yes – but in all the best ways. The kind of fear that comes from stepping into something big, something unknown, and something that truly matters to you.
A Week to Remember
Looking back, I know this first week is one I’ll always remember. It’s the beginning of a brand-new chapter – not just in my career, but in life. It’s felt different. Slower in some ways, but intentionally so. After years of working intense hours and giving my all in every role I’ve taken on, this feels like a shift in pace that I’ve genuinely needed.
And don’t get me wrong – I’m still putting in the graft. Building a business from the ground up takes serious work, and that’s exactly what I’m doing. But now, every decision, every moment, every creative idea is mine – and that feels incredible.
Building a Brand, Not Just a Business
What excites me most is that I’m not just building a salon – I’m building a brand. One that reflects who I am, what I believe in, and what I want Era Hair Studio to stand for. I have big dreams for this space and for what Era can become, and I’ll keep chasing them with everything I’ve got.
This is just the beginning, and I’m so grateful to everyone who’s supported me so far. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me – and if you’re reading this, thanks for being part of it.
Here’s to guiding my own path – one step, one client, one dream at a time.
With love,
Ruby
